Triumph!
Beth peed in the potty for the first time this morning. I am thrilled and astounded.
I just got her a little pink potty chair at Target yesterday, and only showed her how to use it twice, and then this morning while I was fixing my hair she came up and started tugging on her pants, so I took her diaper off and set her on the potty...and lo and behold, after a few moments I heard a little tinkle!
I was really shocked. I figured I would keep showing it to her for weeks before she actually did anything. I realize that one successful potty session does not equal toilet-trained, but I am still quite excited.
She's not quite 18 months yet, which seems pretty early to me. I was just thinking I'd kind of just have the potty chair around and help her get used to it, and hopefully by the time she was 2 or so she'd be toilet-trained. The guy who writes the syndicated parenting column in the Sunday DH is always saying that kids should be potty-trained by 2, anyway. And gosh, would it be nice if she was done with diapers by the time the new baby is born or shortly after. It would be really nice to have to only wipe up one poopy bottom all day long instead of two.
So I am quite encouraged by this early success! I'm not getting my hopes up too high, but it would be great if she keeps it up and it wasn't a fluke.
